Description

The Sherman Tank Memorial sits in the Torcross beachfront car park at Slapton Sands, Devon, featuring a fully restored M4 Sherman tank raised from the seabed in 1984 and mounted on a stone plinth with a commemorative plaque.

Interpretive panels recount the tragic April 1944 Exercise Tiger D-Day rehearsal—when this tank was lost and 946 American servicemen perished—and display recovered tools and archival photographs.

The open-air site offers free parking, accessible pathways, picnic benches and year-round unrestricted public access. Each April, the Royal Tank Regiment Association holds a memorial service beside the tank to honour those who sacrificed their lives.
