Description

Langham Dome, located on Cockthorpe Road near Holt, Norfolk, is a rare surviving example of WWII anti-aircraft gunnery training technology. Built in 1942–43 on the edge of RAF Langham, the Dome used projected moving images to simulate enemy aircraft, allowing trainees to practice tracking and firing techniques—decades ahead of digital virtual reality. Today, it stands as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the only dome of its kind open to the public.

The museum offers a vivid journey into RAF Langham’s wartime role, with immersive displays, short films narrated by Stephen Fry, and interactive exhibits that let visitors test their aim using a dummy training gun and original target footage. The story of local hero Jeff Rounce, recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, is also featured.
