Description

Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands is one of Scotland’s most visited heritage sites. Though now in ruins, the castle played a pivotal role in the Wars of Scottish Independence and in subsequent clan conflicts. Originally founded in the 13th century, Urquhart changed hands multiple times between the Scots and the English.

Today, visitors are captivated by the dramatic setting of Urquhart Castle overlooking Loch Ness, with the iconic Grant Tower providing spectacular photo opportunities. The visitor centre offers exhibitions on Highland history, the castle’s turbulent past, and the myths of Loch Ness.

Facilities include a café, gift shop, and audiovisual displays that bring the medieval stronghold to life. Outdoor areas provide space for picnics, and guided tours help interpret the castle’s archaeology and heritage significance.
