The South Wales Aviation Museum (SWAM) offers a fascinating journey into aviation history in South Wales. Housed in Hangar 872, Barry, SWAM focuses on both military and civil aviation, presenting a unique mix of interactive exhibits and historic aircraft. Visitors can experience hands‐on displays, with the opportunity to climb into open cockpits and get up close with aircraft.

Key highlights include a display of a Jet Provost T5, the classic Armstrong Shackleton, and a modern Tornado GR1—each illustrating pivotal chapters in aviation history. Beyond the aircraft, the museum’s engaging exhibition rooms and heritage artifacts bring the evolution of flight to life, offering fascinating insights into the technologies and stories behind these machines.

Visitor facilities are designed with comfort in mind. There is free on‑site parking, an onsite café (The SWAM Café) providing a welcoming spot for refreshments, and a well‑stocked gift shop featuring aviation memorabilia. Although access can be limited for some areas, the museum’s knowledgeable volunteers ensure an enriching, interactive experience that makes it an important and entertaining destination for families, aviation enthusiasts, and history buffs alike.
