Located at RAF Museum Cosford in Shropshire, the National Cold War Exhibition presents a dramatic account of global tension, technological rivalry and nuclear deterrence from 1945 to 1991. Housed in a striking purpose-built hangar, it features immersive “Hotspot” zones, Cold War-era vehicles, life-sized Russian dolls, and Britain’s iconic V Force bombers—Vulcan, Victor and Valiant—suspended in dynamic poses.
Facilities include free admission, on-site parking, accessible toilets and ramps, baby-changing stations, a licensed restaurant with airfield views, museum shop, aviation-themed playground, 4D cinema, VR flight experiences, and wheelchair/mobility scooter loans. The museum is open daily, with seasonal hours.
Special exhibits include the English Electric Lightning suspended vertically, Bravo November Chinook (Falklands veteran), Cold War Medal display, Cuban Missile Crisis and Space Race zones, and interactive stations exploring RAF roles in nuclear deterrence and global surveillance.
