Description
Located at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent, the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum charts military aviation from the earliest days of flight through the Cold War era. Housed in two wartime hangars and run entirely by volunteers, it showcases one of the world’s rarest guided weapons—a Fieseler Fi 103R-4 Reichenberg piloted V-1—alongside a U-boat–deployed Focke-Achgelis Fa 330A-1 gyro-kite.
Visitors also encounter a Pickett-Hamilton Fort pop-up pillbox, comprehensive collections of British, German and American aircraft engines, the RAF Ex-Prisoners of War Association’s POW artefacts, over 200 uniforms and flying suits, plus Home Front and WW I displays.
Active restoration workshops are open on Wednesdays, giving a behind-the-scenes look at conservation in action.
Facilities include free on-site parking (two disabled bays bookable in advance), fully wheelchair-accessible exhibits and loan wheelchairs, disabled toilets on the airfield, Hangar tours for a minimum £2 donation, accreditation as a Kent Children’s University learning centre, and group or school visits by arrangement. Dogs are not permitted except assistance animals.
