Description
Kenilworth Castle, one of England’s most iconic fortresses, played a central role in national defence and political power struggles for centuries. Established in the 1120s, it was fortified by King John and famously withstood a six-month siege during the Second Barons’ War in 1266—the longest in English history.
It served both as a military stronghold and royal residence, later transformed into a grand palace by Robert Dudley for Queen Elizabeth I. The castle’s massive walls, defensive towers, and strategic location made it a key player in the Wars of the Roses and the English Civil War.
