Castletown D-Day Centre & WW2 Museum, housed in the historic Admiralty Buildings on the Isle of Portland, offers a fully immersive recreation of the busy wartime dockyard from which thousands of American troops embarked for Normandy in June 1944.

Visitors explore an authentic harbour scene complete with surround-sound, original WW2 artefacts, decommissioned weapons and working military vehicles.

Facilities include:

  • Small pay-and-display car park (50 yds from the entrance)
  • 10 % discount at the cafĂ© across the road with your entry ticket
  • Part-disabled access on the ground floor (upper levels via staff-assisted tours)
  • Toilets and seating areas

Special exhibits feature: a battle-scarred Sherman tank you can climb inside; a full-size replica Spitfire suspended in flight; an operable Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft gun; a Nazi bunker showcasing genuine German weapons and props from Saving Private Ryan; the last intact Mulberry Phoenix Caissons topped with six D-Day memorial statues.
