Description

The City of Norwich Aviation Museum is a volunteer-run charity dedicated to preserving Norfolk’s aviation heritage. Located on the northern edge of Norwich International Airport, it showcases an outdoor park with nearly 30 historic aircraft and cockpit sections.

Inside, visitors explore themed galleries such as the Royal Air Force 100 Group Room and the United States Army 8th Air Force Collection.

The museum offers an air-conditioned Tea Room serving freshly brewed coffee, a Museum Shop stocked with scale models and memorabilia, free on-site parking, accessible ramps and toilets, and volunteer-guided tours of key aircraft on display.

The United States Army 8th Air Force Collection brings to life the story of the “Mighty Eighth” in East Anglia through a compact, interpretive display of original artifacts, personal memorabilia and multimedia. You’ll find:

  • Squadron and crew photographs and mission maps
  • Original flight crew uniforms, insignia and patches
  • Period navigation and bombing equipment (bomb sight, flight charts)
  • 8th Air Force survival kit items (Mae West lifejacket, ration tins)
  • Oral-history listening posts with veteran interviews
  • Wartime correspondence and personal letters home

Together these items illustrate the operational tempo, daily life and legacy of the USAAF’s 8th in the European theatre.
