Description
The Shuttleworth Collection in Old Warden is a unique destination that brings aviation history vividly to life. Spread over 875 acres of parkland, the collection offers an immersive experience where heritage aircraft and vintage vehicles aren’t just displayed—they’re kept airworthy and maintained through active restoration. Visitors can witness live demonstrations in the workshops and explore six spacious hangars that house a wide range of historic artifacts.
Highlights include rare, airworthy examples spanning from early aviation to the mid‑20th century. Notable aircraft on display include:
1909 Blériot XI – the world’s oldest flying aircraft, still regularly taking to the skies.
1918 Avro 504K – a versatile trainer and first world war workhorse.
1941 Supermarine Spitfire Mk VC – presented in its authentic historical livery.
In addition to the aircraft, the collection features classic vehicles, vintage motorcycles, and agricultural machinery, all lovingly restored to working order. Visitors also benefit from excellent facilities: beautifully maintained gardens, on‑site workshops where restoration is observed in real time, The Runway Café for refreshments, and a well‑stocked gift shop offering memorabilia. The Swiss Garden, Lakeside Parklands, and Shuttleworth House further enhance the experience by providing historical context and a scenic backdrop to the collection.
This blend of interactive exhibits, live restoration, and extensive facilities makes The Shuttleworth Collection an outstanding place to visit.
